9-night Southern Caribbean Cruise on the Disney Fantasy Day 1 - Intro and Travel to Orlando

Introduction 

We’re going on another cruise! (“But, you just cruised last month!”) We have a lot of cruise credit from pandemic cancellations and Roger has a bunch of “use it or lose it” vacation time banked up. So off we go again. 

When summer 2022 booking originally came out, we felt like the world would hopefully be back to normal and we booked Greece again for 2022 (for the third time after 2020 and 2021 cancellations). But just in case, we also booked a Fantasy 9-night Southern Caribbean. We really like the Southern itineraries and we figured this would be a good use of our credit if we didn’t feel like we were ready for international travel. 

As the date drew near for us to start making plans, it became pretty clear that while DCL wasn’t going to cancel the European itineraries, we didn’t feel ready to travel to Europe. We didn’t want to potentially travel all the way to Europe only to test positive and not be able to get on the ship. That’s a long flight to possibly not sail and then quarantine in Europe. At least sailing out of Florida, it would be cheaper and less stressful to navigate Covid domestically. At the worst, we could rent a car and get ourselves home. So we canceled Greece for the third time. 

It’s all good. We were more than happy with this backup plan. We had done two Southerns previously and loved them and this looked like a great itinerary on a ship we had never been on before. 

Off we go! 

Wednesday July 20 - Travel to Orlando

We have been pretty lucky with regards to airline travel of late, in spite of everything being a complete mess. Our luck ran out. Before we arrived at the airport, we were delayed an hour. Upon arriving, we were delayed another hour. Then we were delayed again. There were a bunch of factors, some weather and some seemed to be Southwest issues. They were very apologetic. Ultimately we left a little over two hours late so it was 10 PM when we arrived. Thankfully, we were booked at the Hyatt in the airport, so after getting our luggage we went right up to the room and got ourselves to bed.

At Sea It’s another day at sea. And this time without laundry (don’t worry, more laundry is coming). Which is good because the day was jam-packed with activities we wanted to do. I woke up at 6:30 and headed to the gym. I found a tiny little piece of real estate and I did a BODYCOMBAT. I had already started learning the chorey for the next release I would be teaching and I knew it somewhat and so I put on the masterclass and listened, but didn’t watch (there really wasn’t any way to watch anyway). Fitness Instructor Journey, Part 4: Unbreakable

It's been one year since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Not that this is something to celebrate, but it's going to be a hard day to forget for the rest of my life. As I've said previously, I'm not an "everything happens for a reason" person but I do find that sometimes the course of our lives can shift in unexpected ways when we face great challenges.  As I stood on the podium this morning to teach my BODYCOMBAT class, I couldn't help but reflect on the fact that if I had not faced the challenge of having cancer, I likely would not have ever become a BODYCOMBAT institutor. 10-Night France, Iceland, and Norway Cruise - Day 8 Reykjavik, Iceland

Reykjavik About a month before we were supposed to set sail someone posted in our FB cruise meet group that there was an issue with the dock at Isafjordur (our second stop in Iceland). They were dredging the harbor to create a new dock that could accommodate larger ships, like the Disney Dream. But apparently it wasn’t ready and a lot of ships were having to cancel that stop. Some of the smaller ships were able to use tenders.  We kept waiting to hear what would happen and we were hopeful, but then, with less than a week before we were set to leave, we got an email from DCL that the port was cancelled and unfortunately, they were unable to secure an alternative port for us. We were really unhappy about it. The cruise already had more sea days than we really wanted and now we were getting another.  I was scrambling to figure out how to get the horseback riding that Emmaline really wanted to do tacked onto another port day.
